Lucius Fox is a former member of the board at Wayne Enterprises, when Thomas Wayne ran the company, helping to build the original monorail system. He was moved to the Applied Sciences division where he helped Bruce Wayne obtain various technologies for his work as Batman. At the end of Batman Begins, he is promoted to head Wayne Enterprises.
