Lieutenant James Gordon is an ally of Batman, who was promoted from sergeant at the end of Batman Begins, for his part in ending the Narrows Disaster. He now runs the Gotham Major Crimes Unit. In public, Gordon denies having ties to the Batman and dismisses the strange bat-shaped light that sometimes emanates from the MCU building's roof - a converted spotlight he built to summon the Dark Knight to the building - as merely defective lighting.
