The site

Clowntravelagency.com was discovered using clues called in to participants with Joker cell phones.

March 30, 2008

Upon its discovery, Clowntravelagency.com displayed a suitcase and an envelope with "DEPARTURE DATE 4-01" written on it.

At 9AM EST, the image was replaced with an identical image, except with the envelope open.

Upon "opening" the envelope, a message is shown:

Ready to have a ball?

A special bag of fun awaits the first to claim it, but you'd better strike fast, there's no time to spare!

The list of locations include:

  • London, England
  • Paris, France
  • Hong Kong, China
  • San Paulo, Brazil
  • Philadelphia, PA
  • Kingston, MA
  • Miami, FL
  • Glendale, NY
  • Midlothian, VA
  • Chicago, IL
  • Atlanta, GA
  • Omaha, NE
  • Kansas City, MO
  • Madison, WI
  • North York, Ontario
  • Pasadena, TX
  • Lakewood, CO
  • Austin, TX
  • Phoenix, AZ
  • Torrance, CA
  • Seattle, WA
  • Portland, OR
  • San Francisco, CA
  • Las Vegas, NV
  • Chula Vista, CA
  • Salt Lake City, UT

These locations are bowling alleys, since the note mentions "ball," "strike," and "spare." The US locations seems to be a locker number with a combination.

When a location has been visited and the task completed, a postmark is stamped onto the address.

The loot

The reward is a leather bag containing a green-and-purple bowling ball and evidence bag. The clown name and a phone number are engraved onto the ball. The evidence bag contains a cell phone, charger, Joker card, and a message from the Joker instructing the participant to call the phone number on the ball to complete the task.

"Nice work, clown! Now call the number on the ball immediately, from this phone and THIS PHONE ONLY. Don't give this number to anyone else, or I'll know. Hopefully, your cohorts will be in the same league as you, because once all your points are racked up, I'll give you all something that will really bowl you over..."

Note from London task

As in the previous phone hunt, upon calling the phone, a woman's voice on the other end cheerily said:

Thank you for calling RENT-A-CLOWN! Hahahah! We now know who you are. Good-bye!

(Zshare .mp3 of the recorded call can be downloaded here.)

Once all of the tasks were completed, the page loads with all of the postmarks, then the list burns away to reveal a congratulatory note from the Joker.

Good job, clowns!

You've proven you're kingpin material, so I've got a job that's right up your alley.

It'll be OK?. I promise.
